גילי בראון // חיית חושך

בהשראת תיאוריית הנפש של יונג וארכיטיפ הצל, שהוא מרכיב חייתיי ומעוות באישיות, הפרויקט מתמקד במחול כביטוי לצללים פנימיים, מרחב של ריפוי ואסקפיזם, שבו הלא מילולי מקבל ביטוי פיזי. 

מחול הוא תרגול מתיש המושך את הצופה עם הסיבולת והמורכבות הרגשית שלו. אלו מרכיבי מפתח גם בז'אנר האימה. אימה מעוררת תגובה רגשית ופיזית שדומה לתחושות שמעורר מחול.

מחול ההבעה הגרמני והאקספרסיוניזם מציגים מופע סוחף ואכזרי מחד ועדין ומאופק מאידך. הניגודיות מתבטאת בעבודות כגון סרט האימה הקבינט של ד"ר קליגרי (1920) המציג עולם של חלום בלהות       ובעבודותיה של הכיאורוגרפית פינה באוש שהשתמשו בתנועה לביטוי רגשי.

הקולקציה משלבת שקיפות ורבדים מבדים עדינים אותם עיבדתי בדרכים המייצרות טשטוש, כתמיות ואמורפיות, במחשבה על אנטומיה, עצמות ושרירים, במה ותאורה, צל וצללית, הדגשה של הגוף וחקירת גבולותיו. עדינות ויופי מול גרוטסקיות, אימה שמהווה משיכה ורתיעה בו זמנית.

Gili Brown // creature of darkness

Inspired by Jung’s Psyche theory and its Shadow Archetype- referring to the animalistic and distorted part of the self- the project focuses on dance as an expression of inner shadows: a space of healing and escapism where the non-verbal obtains physical form.

Dance is an exhausting practice that evokes strong emotional and physical reactions- qualities it shares with horror. Horror stirs visceral sensations similar to those experienced through movement.

German Expressionism often combines brutality with restraint. This contrast echoes in the film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), which presents a grotesque, dreamlike world. Choreographers like Pina Bausch used movement to express trauma and emotion.

The womenswear collection features transparency, layering, and fabrics manipulated to create blur, blotchiness, and amorphousness- drawing from anatomy, muscles, bones, lighting, and stage. Beauty contrasts with grotesqueness, attraction with discomfort.
