הפרויקט סוקר כיצד אומנות ואופנה מבקרות את החברה באמצעות השוואה בין תקופת רפובליקת ויימר לבין תקופתנו. אני שואבת השראה מתנועות אוונגרד שונות מתקופה זו, והפרויקט בוחן את המבנה המחויט של מדים צבאיים אל מול הזרימה של בגדי קברט. 

ה'מודרניות' של התקופה טשטשה באופן שערורייתי גבולות מגדריים ואלמנטים של רוך וקשיחות. גבולות קונבנציונליים אותגרו באמצעות צורות גיאומטריות חדשות וצלליות, שלעיתים אף עוותו בכוונה. המדיה החדשה (רדיו, קולנוע וכיו”ב) והאמנויות הציגו חלופות למציאות (ראה מטרופליס; ד"ר קליגרי) כדי לספק בריחה מהמגבלות המקובלות ולהביע ביקורת. 

על מנת לשקף את ההשפעות הללו, שמשכו אותי אסתטית ורוחנית, אני משתמשת בדפוסים חדים ובעלי זווית המייצגים שסעים חברתיים, וכן בצורות מגבילות כדי לייצג הדחקה.

באמצעות הסרת מגבלות אני מבקשת לתת מקום למשחקיות ולבריחה. בעבודה אני שואפת לשחק עם צלליות ולהאיר מחדש סגנון של הבעה רחבה אשר אפיינה את תקופת ויימאר ומתכתבת איתה היטב גם היום.

 This project explores how art and fashion can critique society by drawing parallels between the cultural upheaval of the Weimar Republic and today’s turbulent times. Inspired by the avant-grade movements of that era, the project takes direction from the militaristic structure of army uniforms, juxtaposing them against the fluidity of cabaret attire.

The ‘modernity’ of the period scandalously blurred the lines between the feminine and the masculine. Conventional boundaries were challenged using new geometric shapes (eg Art Nouveau, Expressionism, Bauhaus, Cubism …) and silhouettes, which were sometimes even intentionally distorted. The new media (radio, film, … ) and arts presented alternate realities (see Metroplis, Dr. Caligari, …) to provide an escape from here to fore accepted restrictions and to express critique.

To reflect those influences and what has drawn me to them aesthetically and spiritually, I aim to use sharp angular patterns to represent societal splits , and use restrictive structure to symbolize repression.

By removing restrictions, I am looking to give voice to playfulness and escape. I am also looking to play with  silhouettes to honor the  fluidic style of the Weimar period which resonates so well today.
